No Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON – Today, Maine’s Second District Congressman, Bruce Poliquin, released the following statement after voting against shutting down the government:
“Shutting down the government would be a failure in leadership.
“In 2013, the government shutdown not only cost our economy $24 billion, but it directly impacted Maine businesses, such as hotels and tourism industries. For example, Acadia National Park’s visitation was reduced by 76% in October of 2013 – causing a 13% reduction in tourism-related sales.
“That’s why I voted against shutting down the government so that we can continue to push legislation that will rein in wasteful government spending and lower our national debt in order to help create a better business climate.”
